Installing Ghost on Debian Linux
#1
Ghost is a blogging platform. You can pay for Ghost pro or host it yourself with a VPS or on a local linux machine. I am showing you how to install Ghost on Debian because Debian is typically the GNU/Linux distro of choice for servers because of the stability it provides.
First lets update Debian
Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y
Next we are going to install nodejs, npm and nano
Code:
sudo apt-get install nodejs npm nano -y
Now we are going to download Ghost with this command:
Code:
wget https://ghost.org/zip/ghost-latest.zip
Next we are going to unzip ghost-latest (this command will also create the directory ghost)
Code:
unzip ghost-latest.zip -d ghost
We then have to set the current directory to ghost with this command:
Code:
cd ghost/
We only have a few more steps to go so let's keep at it!
Code:
sudo npm install --production
Let's create a copy of example.js and call it config.js with this command:
Code:
cp config.example.js config.js
Now let's open config.js with nano with this command:
Code:
sudo nano config.js
Once the config.js file is open we need to replace the host ip address with the ip address of machine Ghost is going to be run on (the one you are using right now to install ghost) the default ip address should be 127.0.0.1.
Next you should probably change the port number ghost is going to run on (most (if not all browsers) use port 80 as the default http port value) so you should probably change the port number to 80.
Now we need to start Ghost with this command:
Code:
npm start --production
First congratulate yourself for installing Ghost on your GNU/Linux machine and then in your browser visit your Ghost blog at http://youripaddress/ghost.
